In this section the most common questions regarding Bluetooth BatteryInfo (BBI) are answered.

1. Licensing and distributing

1.1 Can I use BBI in an educational or commercial environment?

Generally BBI is intended for Home use only! Also the contributor license is a Home use only license. But if you would like to use the Software in educational or commercial environment you must contact the autor to get a special licensing.

1.2 What is a contributor license

If you use BBI with the free license you will find out that once in a while a balloon tooltip will be displayed and some functionalities will be reduced until the system will be rebooted.
The contributor license disables the balloon tooltip and the functional ristriction. But the contributor license is only a Home use only license!

1.3 How can I get a contributor license

If you donate at least 6€ and you also provide a valid address in the PayPal description you will get a contributor license. The contributor license is a Home use only license. If no address is provided in the Paypal donation than no contributor license will be sent.

1.4 Free license, contributor license,... what are the different license options?

There are 4 different license types available for BBI. The available license types are:

Free license: License that is allowed to be used in home environemnt only
Contributor license: License that is allowed to be used in home environemnt only
Educational license: License that is allowed to be used in home and educational environment
Commercial license: License that is allowed to be used in home, educational and commercial environment

Information
The difference between the free license and the contributor license is that the contributor license does not have any restrictions on the functionality of BBI.

For a educational or commercial license you must contact the author. This licenses are only available on request.

1.5 Can I distribute BBI on some media?

A permisson to distribute BBI is needed to distribute the software on some media like CD/DVD/BD (or other media like flash memory). In general there will not be a permission given for distribution on media. But you can contact the author and ask for a permission.

Illegal distribution is a violation again copyright laws.

1.6 Can I distribute BBI on my website / server?

If BBI is distributed on alternate websites a link to the Flying Banana website must be provided on this website to reference to the official website of BBI.

2. Install / Uninstall

2.1 How do I install BBI?

For setup it is only necessary to execute the BbiSetup.exe. During setup the active account must have administrative permissions. An restricted user account may result in an incorrect setup. For later using of BBI no administrative account is needed.

2.2 How can I uninstall BBI?

There are two possibilities to uninstall BBI:

Control Panel - Add / Remove Software - Select 'Bluetooth BatteryInfo' and click remove
The Startmenu folder "Bluetooth BatteryInfo" contains a shortcut called "Remove Bluetooth BatteryInfo". Click on this shortcut.

2.3 How do I use my license file?

If you have a personalized BBI license file, you can use this license file in two ways:

If BBI is already installed, you can replace the installed license file 'license.lic' with the personalized BBI license file in the BBI application directory. After restarting the application the information stored in the new license file is used by BBI.
If BBI is not installed you can use the personalized license file during the setup. The personalized BBI license file 'license.lic' and the Setup executable must be placed in the same directory. During the setup the external license file will be detected by the setup and also copied into the application directory. The license file prvided by the setup will also be installed and named 'license_free.lic'. The license file that was in the same folder like the setup executable is installed as 'license.lic'.

3. Bluetooth BatteryInfo features

3.1 Does BBI shows the battery level for all Bluetooth devices?

Bluetooth BatteryInfo is only able to show the battery level of devices that shows the battery level on the window "Show Bluetooth Devices" of the Operating System.

3.2 Can I display more than one battery level with Bluetooth BatteryInfo?

BBI displays only the battery level of the selected Bluetooth Device. To ensure that BBI does not waste icon space in in the Notification Area, BBI supports only one Notification icon.

3.3 Sometimes I see a balloon tooltip displaying a message that BBI is not for commercial usage. How can I disable it?

This message can not be disabled by the user. To disable the balloon tooltip, it is possible to get a contributor license. (More details can be found in Chapter 1.3.)

3.4 After a while some features of BBI does not work anymore. How can I solve this problem?

The free version of BBI has a few limitations in functionality. After a specific operating system runtime some features of BBI will be disabled. After a system reboot all features of BBI will work until the operating sytem runtime is reached again. To disable this behaviour, it is possible to get a contributor license. (More details can be found in Chapter 1.3.)

4. Miscellaneous

4.1 I'd like to know how a specific feature is designed. Can I get the source code?

The source code of BBI is not available neither complete nor partially.

4.2 My virus scanner detects a virus or trojan, why?

The Setup of BBI is made with the Nullsoft Installer 3.10 (NSIS 3.10). Unfortunately some virus scanners detect once in a while a virus or trojan in the setup file. If a result is positive it is recommended to check the result with an other virus scan software. It is also a good idea to report this problem to the software manufacturer of the virus scan software.

4.3 Can I send a request for a new feature in BBI?

Yes, BBI will be enhanced from time to time. For that all requests of new features will be checked if it makes sense to implement it in a new version.

4.4 What can I do if I found a bug?

First check if you can reproduce the problem. You can report this problem as detailed as possible. All additional detailes helps to reproduce the problem!
